Vision & Mission

After Care

Our aftercare is committed to rendering a support service to working parent in a safe and child-friendly environment, by taking care of our learners after school and during holidays

Education

At Mountview we believe that an effective education does not come from memorising or lecturing. For the learners to actively take part in the learning process the benefits are countless. This learning process entails analysing, collaborating and collaborating – in order to retain and comprehend.

We have two classes per grade from grade R -2. (1 English and 1 Afrikaans) adding 1 Grade 3 in 2023. To teach the basic skills namely Reading, Writing and Mathematics serve as primary starting point to give our learners an excellent foundation for any school afterwards.

Holiday Care

We offer a holiday programme, for our students, on our premises. A qualified teacher and assistant will offer educational lessons to the children each day, making their holiday extra fun.

Our History

During the sixties, the rapid expansion of the community in George necessitated the establishment of a permanent nursery school. In January 1962 the new nursery school was opened under the name of “George Nursery School” with 25 children. The fees were R12 per child, per term and included the daily provision of milk and fruit. The first teacher was Mrs. Brenda Southey and her salary was R50 per month.

During 1968 large premises with a house became available at 91 Mitchell Street. It was converted into a school with two classrooms. The name of the school was changed in 1980 from  “George Nursery School” to “George Pre-primary School / George Preprimêre Skool”. In 1986 plans were drawn up to connect the two new sections, which were situated on either side of the old house. On 28 November 1987, twenty-six years after the establishment of the first school the newly rebuilt George Pre-primary School was officially opened by Mr. JC Heunis, Minister of Development and Planning.

In 1999 the property in Mispel Lane was purchased and converted into 3 classrooms to accommodate the 3 to 4 years, age groups. The Governing Body decided to buy the property adjacent to 91 Mitchell Street in 2005. It was converted to admin offices and an extra play area for the learners.

George Pre-primary School has always been a school with a vision. We are committed to a holistic approach to attaining quality education in a rapidly changing world.

In 2020 the initiative was taken to expand the school to accommodate gr 1 – 3 classes in the future. In 2022 the dream became a reality with the opening of Mountview Primary.
